Cen­tral Di­vi­sion de­tec­tives be­lieve they have made a dent in a drug-smug­gling op­er­a­tion, with the re­cov­ery of close to $.5 mil­lion worth of high-grade mar­i­jua­na. The op­er­a­tion be­gan around 10.30 pm on Sat­ur­day and end­ed around 2 am yes­ter­day. It in­clud­ed In­sps Lavia and Burke, Sgt James, Cpl An­drews and PCs Sinanan, Ram­baran and Welling­ton. Mem­bers of the Cen­tral Rob­bery Unit were al­so in­volved in the ex­er­cise. Fol­low­ing in­for­ma­tion re­ceived, po­lice went to a house at Thom Street in Long­denville where they seized some 39 ki­los of com­pressed mar­i­jua­na.

A 43-year-old man, who was re­port­ed­ly in the house at the time of the ex­er­cise, was ar­rest­ed and charged with pos­ses­sion of drugs. He is ex­pect­ed to ap­pear be­fore a Ch­agua­nas mag­is­trate to­day. Short­ly af­ter, the same par­ty of of­fi­cers went to an­oth­er house at San­ta Mon­i­ca Street in St He­le­na where they ex­e­cut­ed a seach war­rant. A .38 Tau­rus re­volver and six rounds of am­mu­ni­tion were dis­cov­ered and a 37-year-old man was ar­rest­ed. He is al­so ex­pect­ed to ap­pear be­fore a Ch­agua­nas mag­is­trate to an­swer charges of il­le­gal pos­ses­sion of arms and am­mu­ni­tion.
