Es­caped pris­on­er Ri­car­do Ma­hadeo 21, who was on the run over the last 17 days, was shot dead yes­ter­day.

Ma­hadeo, of Cipero Rail­way Line, Ste Madeleine, was as­signed to the bak­ery sec­tion of the Gold­en Grove Prison in Arou­ca and went miss­ing when a head count was tak­en at the cor­rec­tion­al fa­cil­i­ty around 5am on Ju­ly 12. Po­lice of­fi­cers re­port­ed­ly re­ceived a call that Ma­hadeo, who had been serv­ing a six-week sen­tence for break­ing and lar­ce­ny, was lim­ing at a bar in Ste Madeleine.

The of­fi­cers re­spond­ed and Ma­hadeo was re­port­ed­ly shot af­ter he al­leged­ly lunged at one of the of­fi­cers with a cut­lass in his hand. He was tak­en to the San Fer­nan­do Gen­er­al Hos­pi­tal where he suc­cumbed to his in­juries. Mean­while, a Point Fortin man re­mains ward­ed at the San Fer­nan­do Gen­er­al Hos­pi­tal af­ter he was shot by a lone gun­man ear­ly yes­ter­day. Ac­cord­ing to re­ports, An­tho­ny Samuel, of Third Street, Techi­er Vil­lage was walk­ing a short dis­tance away from his home when he was ap­proached by a masked man.

The man shot Samuel once in the chest be­fore es­cap­ing on foot. The wound­ed man was rushed to the Point Fortin Area Hos­pi­tal. In­ves­ti­ga­tions are con­tin­u­ing.
