Homi­cide de­tec­tives are yet to de­ter­mine the mo­tive for the killing of a Diego Mar­tin man late Wednes­day. Chad Her­bert, 21, of Sa­landy Street, was found dead with gun­shot wounds to the head in the Laven­tille area.

Ac­cord­ing to po­lice re­ports, at about 11.30 pm Wednes­day, the law­men were sum­moned to Ho­sein Street, off Pash­ley Street in Laven­tille, af­ter gun­shots were heard in the area. In­ter-Agency Task Force of­fi­cers re­spond­ed with­in min­utes to find Her­bert slumped at the steer­ing wheel of his Maz­da 323. In­ves­ti­ga­tors from the Besson Street Po­lice Sta­tion al­so ar­rived on the scene and in­formed Homi­cide of­fi­cers that they did not know the vic­tim from their crim­i­nal data­base.

Her­bert's rel­a­tives were con­tact­ed late yes­ter­day af­ter po­lice had con­firmed his iden­ti­ty. An au­top­sy is ex­pect­ed to be done on the body to­day, at the Foren­sic Sci­ence Cen­tre, Fed­er­a­tion Park, St James. Res­i­dents of Ho­sein Street were as­sist­ing in­ves­ti­ga­tors who re­turned to the scene yes­ter­day. The mur­der toll for the year now stands at 343.
