A Customs and Excise officer will appear before an Arima magistrate today on charges of reckless and drunken driving. A report said the officer, of central Trinidad, struck a 12-year-old boy who was walking along the Piarco Main Road, Piarco Village, on Saturday night.
The boy was hit by a wing mirror on the vehicle. Police said the Customs officer was given a breathalyser test which read 108, the legal limit being 35. The vehicle was later impounded by the Piarco police. The driver was taken to the Arouca Police Station where he remained in custody up to late yesterday evening.
The condition of the boy was not clear, police said. Meanwhile, another driver will appear today before an Arima magistrate charged with drunken driving. He was held on Friday by Piarco police. Police said the driver and two other relatives were in the vehicle on the compound of the Piarco International Airport.
