Prison officers found and seized a quantity of marijuana at the women’s prison yesterday.
During a routine search, the officers reportedly found two crocus bags of the drug.
The quantity was not immediately released to the media.
During the search other illegal items such as cigarettes, cell phones and chargers were also found.
Acting Commissioner of Prisons Dane Clarke commended the officers who found the items for their efficiency and professionalism in a release yesterday.
However, he condemned rogue officers, whom he said, “have no regard for their colleagues, and are intent on plying their trade even as their colleagues are losing their lives. “
Clarke said the increase of searches was a measure to counter-trafficking.
The release stated, “Members of the Criminal Investigation Department were called in and a full scale investigation was immediately launched into the discovery.”
