For the month of April, the inflation rate was 1.5 percent—a slight increase from the 1 percent figure reported in March by the Central Statistical Office (CSO).

In its latest Consumer Price Index bulletin, the CSO confirms an Inflation Rate of 1.5% for April 2025. It says this is a measurement of the percentage change in the All Items Index for the month of April 2025 over April 2024.

The CSO notes that the Inflation Rate for the comparative period (April 2024/April 2023) was 0.5 percent.

In terms of the All Items Index of 125.2—calculated from the prices collected for the month of April 2025—that figure was a slight uptick of 0.2 points or 0.2% above the All Items Index for March 2025.

The Index for Food and Non-Alcoholic Beverages decreased from 153.4 in March 2025 to 152.9 in April 2025, reflecting a decrease of -0.3%.

“Contributing significantly to this decrease was the general downward movement in the prices of fresh whole chickens, hot peppers, tomatoes, cabbage, cucumber, fresh king fish, plantains, full cream powdered milk, pimento and melongene,” the CSO bulletin explained.

It added that the decrease was countered by price increases in some foods.

“The full impact of these price decreases,” the CSO said, “was offset by the general increase in the prices of pumpkin, Irish potatoes, garlic, fresh steak, table margarine, cheddar cheese, oranges, parboiled rice, ochroes and onions.”

The bulletin also highlights other indices and sub-indices registering increases in April 2025 when compared with figures from March 2025:

“…increases in the sub-indices for Alcohol and Tobacco of 0.7%; Home Ownership of 0.7%; Rent of 0.7%; Health of 0.3%; Transport of 0.4%; Recreation and Culture of 0.1%; Hotels, Cafes and Restaurants of 0.6%; and Miscellaneous Goods and Services of 0.2%.”

The bulletin notes there was a decrease in the sub-index for Furnishings, Household Equipment and Routine Maintenance of the House of -0.4%.

All other sections remained unchanged.
