Cunupia man charged with fraud

A Cunu­pia man has ap­peared in court charged with two counts of fraud. Adesh Mano, 50, of Chin Chin Road, was charged with two counts of fraud­u­lent con­ver­sion in the sum of $150,500.
He ap­peared in the Port of Spain Mag­is­trates’ Court via video con­fer­enc­ing on May 18th and was grant­ed $300,000 bail. The mat­ter was ad­journed to Mon­day, Ju­ly 20th 2020 and trans­ferred to the Ch­agua­nas Mag­is­trates’ Court.
Ac­cord­ing to po­lice re­ports, the vic­tim in the mat­ter told po­lice that dur­ing the pe­ri­od Ju­ly 11th 2019 and Ju­ly 19th 2019, he paid a man $115,000 which rep­re­sent­ed a down pay­ment to­wards the pur­chase and im­por­ta­tion of a mo­tor ve­hi­cle val­ued at $230,000. The car was to be de­liv­ered by Oc­to­ber 19th 2019. How­ev­er, this nev­er hap­pened, and the vic­tim nev­er re­ceived a full re­fund of his mon­ey. The vic­tim made a re­port to the Fraud Squad and in­ves­ti­ga­tions were launched in­to the mat­ter. On Sun­day May 17th 2020, an op­er­a­tion was con­duct­ed in the Cen­tral Di­vi­sion which re­sult­ed in Mano be­ing ar­rest­ed by a par­ty of of­fi­cers of the Fraud Squad Of­fice, Port of Spain. He was charged with the of­fence on Mon­day May 18th 2020, by PC Ramkissoon.
