Po­lice are in­ves­ti­gat­ing two sep­a­rate mur­ders that oc­curred hours apart on Mon­day night.

In the first in­ci­dent, two men went to the Mal­oney Po­lice Sta­tion around 9.15 pm and re­port­ed to of­fi­cers that some­one had been killed on Sergeant Road, Red Hill, D’Abadie.

Of­fi­cers on pa­trol went to the scene and guid­ed by neigh­bours, found 33-year-old Ren­nie James dead.

James, who was ly­ing on his couch, was shot in the head.

Hours lat­er, around 11 pm, res­i­dents of Gon­za­les, Bel­mont, called po­lice, say­ing they heard gun­shots near Las­tique Street.

When of­fi­cers ar­rived, they found 23-year-old Ja­heim Thomas bleed­ing from gun­shot wounds and cling­ing to life.

He was tak­en to the Port-of-Spain Gen­er­al Hos­pi­tal, where he was pro­nounced dead at 11.30 pm.

In­ves­ti­ga­tors re­cov­ered 31 spent 5.56 shells, three spent 9mm shells, and four live rounds of 9mm am­mu­ni­tion at the scene. Po­lice said Thomas was a known firearm of­fend­er.

Of­fi­cers from the Re­gion II and Re­gion I Homi­cide Bu­reaus are in­ves­ti­gat­ing both mur­ders.
