Deputy Commissioner of Police Junior Benjamin yesterday advised citizens to ensure the Carnival remains clean and safe as activities related to it wind down for the rest of this week.
He made the comment while visiting Sangre Grande Carnival festivities, where he witnessed several small bands and one band of moko jumbies parade.
Most of the mas bands came from Sangre Grande and environs and portrayed their costumes to the massive crowd that waited patiently to witness their parade.
Sangre Grande Regional Corporation chairman Kenwyn Phillip said he asked the business community to make a better contribution for Carnival 2026, so it would be much brighter and bigger. However, he noted the bands were scaled down because they did not have enough finance.
Meanwhile, Snr Supt Paponett, who is in charge of the Eastern Division, reported that there were no reports of incidents during the Parade of Bands. He complimented the organisation of the event by Sangre Grande Carnival Committee chairman Kevin Thomas. He also commended masqueraders and spectators for their behaviour during J’Ouvert and hoped it would continue throughout yesterday.
