Eleven days af­ter the skele­tal re­mains of a Point Fortin man were un­earthed in St James, po­lice have dis­cov­ered an­oth­er de­com­pos­ing body near­by.

Ac­cord­ing to re­ports, of­fi­cers re­ceived a call around mid­day about a body found in a forest­ed area off Riverville Trace, Dibe, Long Cir­cu­lar. Up­on ar­rival, they found the de­com­pos­ing re­mains in a makeshift grave ap­prox­i­mate­ly 30 feet from where Win­ston Ros­tant’s re­mains had been dis­cov­ered. The grave was about five feet deep.

Ros­tant, 48, and an­oth­er man, Ju­nior Tay­lor, 43, were re­port­ed miss­ing on Oc­to­ber 27, 2024. Their rel­a­tives claimed they had been kid­napped, and a $100,000 ran­som was de­mand­ed for their safe re­lease.

When Ros­tant’s re­mains were first found, they were ini­tial­ly be­lieved to be­long to kid­napped busi­ness­man Shashi Anand Ram­per­sad.

Po­lice in­ves­ti­gat­ing Ram­per­sad’s case had been search­ing the area af­ter re­ceiv­ing in­for­ma­tion that his body was buried there. How­ev­er, they soon re­alised the re­mains were not his af­ter find­ing Ros­tant’s Ce­mex em­ploy­ee iden­ti­fi­ca­tion card.

Ka­reem Ro­driguez has since been de­nied bail af­ter be­ing charged with Ram­per­sad’s kid­nap­ping. The 36-year-old busi­ness­man was ab­duct­ed on No­vem­ber 21, 2024.

On Jan­u­ary 28, of­fi­cers from var­i­ous units—in­clud­ing the Re­gion I Homi­cide Bu­reau, the An­ti-Kid­nap­ping Squad (AKS), the Ca­nine Unit, and the West­ern Di­vi­sion, with as­sis­tance from the Reg­i­ment—con­duct­ed a search of the forest­ed area. There, they dis­cov­ered a body in a foetal po­si­tion buried in a shal­low grave.

While there has been spec­u­la­tion on so­cial me­dia re­gard­ing the iden­ti­ty of the lat­est dis­cov­ery, there has been no of­fi­cial con­fir­ma­tion. DNA sam­ples are ex­pect­ed to be tak­en from rel­a­tives of the sus­pect­ed in­di­vid­ual to con­firm the iden­ti­ty.

As of late yes­ter­day evening, po­lice were still nav­i­gat­ing through bam­boo patch­es to reach the site and com­plete the ex­ca­va­tion of the body. Near­by res­i­dents de­clined to speak with the me­dia about the sec­ond dis­cov­ery.—Jensen La Vende
