The People’s National Movement (PNM) Tobago Council election is heating up as two well-known names are set to face-off for the leadership post.
Yesterday, former Tobago House of Assembly (THA) chief Secretary Ancil Dennis confirmed he would be vying for the post and senior Government officials told Guardian Media that THA Minority Leader Kelvon Morris is gearing up to challenge him.
Morris was the only candidate under the PNM banner to win his seat in Daryl Spring/Whim in the January 6 THA elections, which saw a sweeping victory for the newcomers of the Progressive Democratic Patriots (PDP).
Since that loss, current Tobago Council leader Tracey Davidson-Celestine has confirmed that she will not be re-contesting the leadership position.
Guardian Media has been informed that Davidson-Celestine lost the confidence of the party and was asked to step aside after the council she led suffered that massive loss.
