The man who was killed by po­lice dur­ing an an­ti-crime ex­er­cise in Diego Mar­tin on Wednes­day evening re­mained uniden­ti­fied up to yes­ter­day.

Res­i­dents said the man, known on­ly as Max, was said to be in his late 20s and was be­lieved to be from Covi­gne. Po­lice re­ports stat­ed that of­fi­cers, in­clud­ing mem­bers of the West­ern Di­vi­sion­al Task Force and the Gang and In­tel­li­gence Unit, went to Bagatelle Road, Diego Mar­tin, around 6.30 pm and saw a group of peo­ple stand­ing around.

It was al­leged that as they iden­ti­fied them­selves, sev­er­al of the men took off, run­ning north along Bagatelle Road. Po­lice claimed that one man was seen clutch­ing his waist as he was be­ing pur­sued by the of­fi­cers, and that dur­ing the chase, he pulled what ap­peared to be a sil­ver and black firearm from his waist and point­ed it at the law­men.

Three of­fi­cers re­port­ed­ly fired their ser­vice-is­sued weapons, in keep­ing with the TTPS’s Use of Force Pol­i­cy. Po­lice said the uniden­ti­fied man col­lapsed while a 17-year-old boy al­leged­ly tossed a gun in­to some bush­es and sur­ren­dered to of­fi­cers.

The in­jured man was tak­en to the St James In­fir­mary, where he was pro­nounced dead at 6.55 pm. The teenag­er was ar­rest­ed and tak­en to the West End Po­lice Sta­tion, where he re­mained yes­ter­day pend­ing fur­ther in­quiries.
