Dilapidated and unsightly vendors booths at the Maracas Beach Facility are being demolished. This is part of ongoing work to upgrade and enhance the facility.
Tourism Minister Randall Mitchell, who visited the facility with a team from the ministry and officials from Udecottto get a first-hand view of the work, said he is satisfied that the work is proceeding in an efficient and cost-effective manner. He expressed confidence that the Maracas Beach Facility will be upgraded to an internationally accepted standard when the work is completed.
In December 2018, Udecott obtained an administration and management contract for the facility. The old wastewater treatment plant at the beach facility has also been demolished and a new one located close to the car park has been constructed.
Over the past three months, the beach has been significantly cleared of debris, including fallen trees.
Udecott’s contract provides for oversight of grounds maintenance, vendors, and security services and the agency is also responsible for general events management, landscaping and garbage removal at the facility.
