A lawman with a doctorate in management is now the front runner to become commissioner of police. Fifty five-year-old Dwayne Gibbs yesterday became the top nominee after the two top seeded applicants were sidelined by Parliament. Gibbs, a superintendent of police at Alberta, Canada, holds a PhD in management, with his doctoral dissertation being in community policing.
He also holds a master's in business administration, a master's degree in sociology and a bachelor's degree in education. He obtained his degrees from the University of Alberta. Gibbs also has training in industrial relations.
He has worked in traffic safety and has lectured in organisational stress to families of police officers. He has also done work in the combat and control od organised crime. Gibbs, who was born in Edmonton, Canada, is said to be a sports enthusiast, having participated in football, cycling, baseball and running relays.
He has three children.
