One of two thieves who died after they were shot during a botched robbery has been identified as Garvin “Donkey” Jack of Morvant.
According to a police report, around 4.20 pm on Tuesday at Club Exclusive, Ramier Street, Morvant, two men - one armed with a gun and the other with a knife - entered the club and announced a hold-up.
One of the patrons, who is a retired law enforcement officer and a holder of a FUL, drew his gun and opened fire on the suspects. Police said the armed suspect returned fire following which both men attempted to flee the scene, however, Jack, died on the spot after being shot.
The second suspect who also collapsed was taken to the Port-of-Spain General Hospital by Cpl Gordon of the Gang Unit. He was pronounced dead on arrival.
The second suspect is yet to be identified.
Police said a Glock pistol was seized from the second suspect.
The retired law enforcement officer and another patron were also shot and injured during the exchange of gunfire and are being treated at hospital.
North Eastern Division Insp Sunil Bharath visited the scene along with Supt Ramjohn, Sgt Murray and investigator Cpl Hector.
