Free dou­bles were on the menu in Ch­agua­nas on Tues­day, when Sauce Dou­bles gave the tasty del­i­ca­cy away to cel­e­brate In­ter­na­tion­al Dou­bles Day—which in­ci­den­tal­ly falls on In­di­an Ar­rival Day. 

A spokesman for Sauce Dou­bles in Ch­agua­nas told Guardian Me­dia, “To­day is rec­og­nized as In­ter­na­tion­al Dou­bles Day.”

The spokesman said a no­tice was post­ed on so­cial me­dia and cus­tomers start­ed rolling in from 6 am. Con­sumers who ate on the spot were giv­en as much as they could eat.

The spokesman said dif­fer­ent ven­dors cel­e­brate the day by giv­ing dif­fer­ent of­fers to their cus­tomers.

Dou­bles afi­ciona­do Pe­ter Jag­ger­nath said his grand­moth­er, who hails from St James, Port of Spain, made dou­bles dur­ing an era when on­ly one bara was sold with chan­na.

“In those days they were ‘sin­gles’,” Jag­ger­nath re­called, adding that he was glad for the “free­ness”.

In­ter­na­tion­al Dou­bles Day was cre­at­ed in 2019 by Sham Ma­habir, born and raised in Trinidad but now liv­ing in Lon­don.
