Political leader of the Progressive Democratic Patriots, Watson Duke, says the local government election results show the level of frustration by the population.
Watson Duke says he is expecting similar results in next year's General Election.
He says young people in particular are growing fed up of local politics and are finding ways to have their voices heard.
According to the PDP leader, young people will not suffer their voice to be silenced by anyone. That is why there are so many youth-led protests happening around the world.
“They want to have more of a say in politics,” he says. “Hence for me, as a young person, I recognize that the youths must have a voice and I choose to step back. And I say to Assemblyman Fally, I want you to become the next Chief Secretary of Tobago.”
Watson Duke also wants the major political parties to account for all the money they spent during the recent local government election.
“We heard the PNM spend $15 million on the campaign. I want the PNM to say where they get that money from, to run that kind of heavy advertising every night and campaigning every single night,” the PDP leader demands. “Is it drugs money? Is it fake oil money?”
He adds: “The UNC must also tell us where they get their money too, to run that type of campaign.”
