Electrician accused of beating ex-girlfriend gets bail

An elec­tri­cian was grant­ed $5,000 own bail when he ap­peared be­fore a mag­is­trate in the Scar­bor­ough Mag­is­trates' Court ac­cused of as­sault by beat­ing.

Kern Dun­can, 32, of Bethal, To­ba­go, plead­ed not guilty yes­ter­day to the charge at a vir­tu­al hear­ing in the Scar­bor­ough Sec­ond Court. The vic­tim is said to be his ex-girl­friend

The mat­ter has been ad­journed to Ju­ly 31.

Dun­can was ar­rest­ed by of­fi­cers of the Gen­der-Based Vi­o­lence Unit (GB­VU), To­ba­go Di­vi­sion, af­ter the vic­tim re­port­ed to po­lice that last Sat­ur­day (June 6, 2020) she was al­leged­ly as­sault­ed by the ac­cused dur­ing an ar­gu­ment at his home.

Con­sta­ble Sandy of the GDVU To­ba­go Di­vi­sion im­me­di­ate­ly launched an in­ves­ti­ga­tion in­to the re­port which re­sult­ed in the ar­rest of Dun­can on Mon­day.

The GB­VU said yes­ter­day that all re­ports made will be thor­ough­ly in­ves­ti­gat­ed with them aim of bring­ing all per­pe­tra­tors to jus­tice.

The Po­lice Ser­vice said all vic­tims of gen­der-based crimes are strong­ly urged to re­port all cas­es to en­sure that po­lice can pro­vide the nec­es­sary sup­port.
