An Engineer with the Programme for Upgrading Roads Efficiency Unit (PURE) under the Ministry of Works is the country's latest road fatality victim.
She has been identified as Janine Carr-Weekes, 43, of Lime Boulevard West, Santa Rosa Heights in Arima. She was fondly called Nina.
Carr-Weekes, the mother of two, was currently on vacation leave and was due to leave the country to go to Florida on Wednesday for a few days of recreational purposes and relax time.
According to a police report, Carr-Weekes was driving her grey Toyota Hilux when it crashed into a light pole along the Churchill Roosevelt Highway in Trincity in the vicinity of Popeye's Fastfood outlet. The incident occurred shortly before 5 pm on Tuesday.
She succumbed to her injuries on the scene despite efforts by passers-by and paramedics to have CPR done.
Speaking with the Guardian Media on Wednesday afternoon, Carr-Weekes' mother, Lynette Carr was inconsolable.
She said her daughter went to Trinicity to get her hair braided in preparation for her trip, "I saw her after 8 am yesterday (Tuesday) and she told me she was going to get her hair done. She came back home but I wasn't there and left again then I got the news of her death."
Lynette said her daughter was a single-parent of two children ages 19 and 15 and was looking forward to see her 19 year old start University to pursue medicine.
"She had goals and one of it was to get a house which she did right next to me here. She was a kind hearted individual who was always obedient to me, " Lynette said.
Lynette said they are Jehovah Witnesses and she believes that her daughter, the only daughter of four children is "resting peacefully."
