A 28-year-old prison es­capee has been re­cap­tured by po­lice fol­low­ing a man­hunt that end­ed along Guaico Tamana Road on Wednes­day.

Abra­ham Brig­gs, who es­caped cus­tody on Tues­day evening, was caught by of­fi­cers of the San­gre Grande Emer­gency Re­sponse Pa­trol (ERP) and is cur­rent­ly be­ing treat­ed at the San­gre Grande Hos­pi­tal for gun­shot wounds.

Brig­gs had fled around 5 pm while work­ing at the Youth Train­ing and Re­ha­bil­i­ta­tion Cen­tre in Arou­ca. In a re­lease is­sued yes­ter­day, the Trinidad and To­ba­go Prison Ser­vice said an alarm was raised im­me­di­ate­ly af­ter his es­cape, prompt­ing a joint search by prison and po­lice of­fi­cers in sur­round­ing ar­eas.

Brig­gs is serv­ing a six-year sen­tence for rob­bery with ag­gra­va­tion and was due for re­lease in March 2029. He was clas­si­fied as a “Star Con­vict” and housed at the Gold­en Grove Prison.

His last known ad­dress is 67 Brook­lyn Bridge Road, Set­tle­ment, San­gre Grande.
