Less than two weeks after mother of two Tineil Cupid was stabbed to death, her estranged boyfriend appeared in court for the crime.
In a virtual appearance yesterday, Siparia Magistrate Aden Stroude read the charge to 42-year-old Kerry Kaydon Daniel.
Cupid’s body was found in a forested area at Well No. 8, Syncline Road, Santa Flora on Tuesday October 13 hours after her mother reported to the police that she was missing.
Police said around 3.15 pm a WASA employee stumbled upon her body at the well which is located in a forested area.
An autopsy revealed she had been stabbed multiple times.
Three weeks before, 23-year-old Cupid had ended her relationship with Daniel. She was staying at the home of her mother Natalie Manzano at Easy Street, Fyzabad. Manzano reported to police that Cupid left her home around 10:20 pm on Monday October 12 with Daniel to collect clothes and to purchase food.
Daniel was arrested at his Fyzabad home the day after her body was discovered. Cupid was a CEPEP worker and had two children, ages six and four.
Cupid’s funeral service took place on Tuesday at Guides Funeral Home in San Fernando. Enquiries were conducted by WPC Dyer-Baptiste, WPC Callender and PC Nelson while the investigation was supervised by Inspector (Ag.) Jones, Sgt. Elvin and Sgt. Stephen James with the guidance of Legal Officer, PC Lewis.
Deputy Director of Public Prosecutions Joan Honore-Paul gave instructions to detectives on Thursday to charge Daniel with murder. Prosecutor Sgt Bajan told the court that the file has to be sent to the office of the DPP for a state attorney to be appointed in the matter.
Daniel was represented by attorney Aaron Smith.
He was remanded into custody to reappear on November 20.
