An 18-year-old man and several members of his household are currently in police custody having been arrested in St James on Thursday during operation Strike Back.
Police said the family members were arrested during the exercise, which was conducted between 12 pm and 7 pm at Aboud Circular, St James, by officers assigned to the Western Division Task Force.
Based on intelligence they had gathered after conducting extensive enquires, the officers executed a search warrant for firearms and ammunition at the home of the 18-year-old.
During the search, a Keltec firearm, fitted with a scope and loaded with a magazine containing three rounds of 9mm ammunition, was allegedly found and seized.
The man along and his family were subsequently arrested and are assisting the police with its investigation.
The officers believe the firearm was used in the murder of Jamal Jones, who was gunned down last Wednesday at Aboud Circular, St James, at about 12.45 pm.
The exercise was coordinated by acting Sr Supt Thompson, Supt Henry, acting Insp Grant, acting Sgt Carmona and was supervised by acting Cpls Khan and Hunte and included PCs Clement, Mc Clean, Genty, Peters, Frith, Ottley and Noreiga.
