Relatives of murdered Pennywise sales clerk Teneisha Jackie say her murder has soured the new year for them. They believe her killing was a case of being in the wrong place at the wrong time.
Jackie, 19, was shot dead while in the front passenger seat of a silver Hyundai Elantra just after midnight on Tuesday. A 30-year-old man who was also in the car was shot and wounded in the attack.
At the Forensic Science Centre, St James, yesterday, one of Jackie’s relatives, who asked not to be named, said it was not easy coping with her murder on only the second day of the year.
“It does feel as if the year was soured. It’s hard knowing that the year just began and you pray for the year to be good and this just happened,” she said. “It was unexpected but at the end of the day God knows best.”
A relative said while she knew Jackie was not involved in any illegal activities, relatives often spoke to her and asked her to be careful when going out, given the frequency of people being killed by stray bullets. The relative also dismissed rumours circulating on social media that Jackie was an accomplice in a recent crime.
Jackie was originally from Santa Cruz but had recently moved to Curepe with a relative.
