A Penal father went livid on cutlass wielding bandits after the intruder threatened to take his four-year-old daughter away if he couldn’t surrender cash and jewelry.
Navin Bissoon’s action empowered his brother Nishan Bissoon to join the fight, prompting the three bandits to flee. Bissoon’s common-law wife Annisa Ramnarine, 28 and Nishan, 30, suffered chop wounds during the incident.
According to a report, the family of six was at their Suchit Trace home when around 2 am, they were awoken by the sound of their door being broken down. By the time Bissoon, Annisa and their daughter Shania rose, three bandits were already in their room. The intruders demanded money and jewelry and when Bissoon, a 32-year-old labourer, said they did not have any, one of the bandits responded, “If you don’t have any money, we will take your daughter and go with her.”
Instead of cowering, Bissoon sprung toward the men and tussled with them until Nishan, who was awakened by the noise, joined in. He was chopped on his foot while Anissa was struck over her eye.
When Bissoon’s stepfather, Jairam Bedasie, 74, came into the room, one the bandits bit him. The bandits stole cash and mobile phone and ran off to a vehicle that was waiting outside. The incident was reported to Penal police, who were searching for the bandits up to late Tuesday.
