Police are investigating a fire that destroyed a house in Claxton Bay yesterday afternoon.
No one was injured.
The house at Sum Sum Hill Road is owned by a relative of the owner of AM Marketing Company Limited.
Investigators were informed that two workmen were doing welding work on the roof of a shed adjoining the western side of the home.
Around 2 pm one of them saw smoke emanating from an area on the ground floor.
They alerted the occupants Ashmin Mohammed, 58, and Nagir Mohammed, 86, who were in the house.
They came out and all of them tried to put out the fire without success. The house was eventually engulfed in flames.
Three other people ages 21, 19 and 56 lived in the house.
The Fire Services with tenders under the supervision of Assistant Divisional Fire Officer Belgrave responded and tried to extinguish the blaze, but the house was totally destroyed.
The cause of the fire has not yet been determined.
The home had an estimated value of $2 million.
PC Balliram of the St Margarets Police Station is investigating.
