Seven people are now homeless after a fire destroyed a million-dollar building in Carenage on Wednesday night.
Around 7.45 pm on Wednesday, fire officers were alerted to a blaze at a three-apartment complex close to L’Anse Mitan Road, Carenage.
As units from the Chaguaramas Fire Station, the Four Roads Fire Station and Fire Headquarters at Wrightson Road responded, they found the building engulfed in flames.
Initially battling low water pressure, the officers were able to get the fire under control and prevent it from spreading but not before it completely destroyed the residential dwelling.
The damage was estimated at around $1.2 million.
Reports indicated that one of the occupants reported seeing and smelling smoke minutes before the fire was detected but as frantic efforts were made to ensure everyone vacated the building, they were unable to save anything.
