“I want to see him go behind bars,” lamented Samdaye Singh, the aunt of 36-year-old fisherman Amit Boodoo who was chopped to death in Barrackpore on Friday night.
Boodoo was killed while another man is in a critical condition after they attacked each other with cutlasses on the road in front Boodoo’s home at Jaipaulsingh Road.
His aunt says they used to be friends but their relationship got “sour” some time ago.
According to a police report, around 6.30 pm, shortly after Boodoo returned to home, the man arrived in a car driven by another man.
They began arguing and armed with cutlasses they attacked each other and both received chop wounds to their head.
Boodoo’s wife and the driver parted the men.
However, Boodoo received at least three deep wounds to his head and died before he got to the Princes Town District Health Facility.
The other man, a 33-year-old labourer of Barrackpore and Claxton Bay, is warded at the San Fernando General Hospital.
When Guardian visited Boodoo’s home where he lived with his wife and 11-year-old son, his aunt who lives on the compound said they had gone to the home of Boodoo’s mother in Rousillac.
She did not know where Boodoo had gone that evening but he also worked at a car wash.
She said Boodoo was inside his house when the car pulled up.
“The man say if you bad, jump out,” she said then her nephew went out on the road.
“I see a scramble two of them with cutlass, they fighting with sword like and that was it.”
“He (nephew) get about three chop one place the skull, he brains was showing,”she recalled.
She did not know what caused the altercation, but she denied that her nephew was drunk as he did not drink alcohol.
Singh, 64, said she cared for her nephew since he was a baby and considered him her son.
“He was a nice child but he have a kind of high temper like,” she added.
There was a blood trail, approximately 30 feet leading to his gap. Homicide detectives have obtained CCTV footage from a neighbour’s house and have seized two cutlasses.
Among the officers responding to the incident were Insp Rineiro, acting Sgt Deo, PC Jugoon, PC Young of the Barrackpore Police Starion and Homicide Bureau of Investigations Region 3. Cpl Marsh is investigating.
