Caribbean Airlines has warned passengers to expect delays on some of its jet services today due to a regional satellite communications outage affecting the SITA system.
In a media release issued this morning, the airline said, “The issue is not unique to Caribbean Airlines and is affecting ALL airlines using this system.”
Only flights operated by the airline’s Boeing 737-8 fleet have been affected so far, with delays reported on several regional and international routes. Some passengers have faced disruptions of up to four hours.
Caribbean Airlines said the outage stems from the SITA satellite communication system, which supports essential aviation operations. “The service provider is working to resolve the issue,” the airline stated, as it urged passengers to check for the latest updates via its website and social media platforms.
Guardian Media reached out to SITA for further clarification on the nature and scope of the disruption. The company acknowledged receipt of our queries and promised to respond.
In the meantime, Caribbean Airlines is encouraging customers to stay informed by checking the “Flight Status” section at caribbean-airlines.com or signing up for real-time notifications.
