Relief continues to pour in for affected flood victims in Sangre Grande and environs as people as far as New York came to assist those affected by the recent devastating floods.
On Friday, John A. Hall, a Trinidadian living in Brooklyn, New York, together with other Trini employees of American Airlines, based in Miami, also journeyed to Brooklyn Settlement, east of the town’s centre, where they distributed, electronic appliances, clothing, foodstuff and medical supplies.
Hall said they have one thing in common which is the name of the place where they reside. He said their hearts were touched when they looked at pictures on television, the stories in the newspaper and social media and saw the damage the flood had done to people homes.
He said the group decided to travel to their country of birth and gave back to the people.
Also bringing relief were some youths who teamed up and purchased water, clothing and food supplies.
Nirvan Maharaj, President All Trinidad General Workers’ Trade Union also distributed supplies, including clothing, to those in need in Vega de Oropouche, a district east of the Sangre Grande business community.
The residents said they were happy to receive the supplies and thanked their donors and other NGO’s who stood by their side in a time of disaster. They said this made them feel wanted and loved.
