Four people were arrested and two firearms, ammunition and quantities of narcotics seized during a series of anti-crime exercises carried out by police in the North Central and Southern Divisions overnight.
According to a media release, officers attached to the North Central Division Task Force conducted an operation in the Champ Fleurs district between 10 p.m. on Monday and 1 a.m. on Tuesday.
During a search of an abandoned concrete structure, officers discovered a Taurus revolver along with one round of ammunition.
The operation was spearheaded by Senior Superintendent Gift and Superintendent Jaikaran and coordinated by ASPs Bharath and Pierre.
Meanwhile, officers in the Southern Division carried out exercises in the San Fernando and La Romain districts which led to several arrests and seizures.
Police said a 38-year-old man and a 31-year-old woman, both of La Romain, were arrested for possession of a rifle fitted with a magazine containing ten rounds of ammunition.
In a separate incident, a 70-year-old woman of La Romain was detained after officers allegedly found a quantity of cocaine in her possession.
A 53-year-old man from San Fernando was also arrested for possession of cannabis.
Officers also conducted a search of a bushy area along Papourie Road, Esperance Village, where they discovered more than one kilogramme of cannabis hidden among the vegetation.
The exercises formed part of ongoing anti-crime operations aimed at targeting illegal firearms, ammunition and narcotics across several police divisions.
Police did not disclose whether charges had yet been laid against the suspects up to Tuesday morning, but investigations into the incidents are continuing.
