Four people were arrested and two firearms, quantities of ammunition, and narcotics were seized by Central Division police during several intelligence-led exercises conducted over the past 48 hours.
According to police reports, between 8 pm on Saturday November 8 and 1 am on Sunday, officers of the Central Division Task Force (CDTF) Area North carried out an intelligence-based exercise in the Enterprise district.
Acting on information, officers went to Mayers Avenue, Chrissie Trace, where they observed a group of men liming on a bridge along the roadway.
Police said that while approaching the group, they saw one of the men, known to them, throw an object to the ground. The man was stopped and searched, and officers reportedly found a black .38 Special revolver loaded with five rounds of .38 ammunition. The 30-year-old Enterprise resident was arrested and later charged with possession of firearm and possession of ammunition.
Earlier that day, between 1.30 pm and 7 pm, another team of CDTF Area North officers conducted a search at a residence along Petersfield Main Road, Chaguanas. During the search, police said they discovered 13.5 grammes of cocaine and 78.3 grammes of cannabis. A 42-year-old man was arrested in connection with the find.
Between 3 pm and 10 pm the same day, officers of the CDTF Area South carried out another intelligence-led exercise at Fitt Street, Montrose. There, they executed a search at the residence of a known offender and several individuals gathered at the location. Police said the search led to the discovery of 123 grammes of cannabis. A 47-year-old man from South Phase Four, Edinburgh 500, was arrested in connection with the drugs.
During the same operation, a 41-year-old man from George Street, Esperanza Village, Couva, was also arrested for possession of 1.6 grammes of cocaine.
Additionally, between 7 pm and 10.30 pm on Friday, November 7, officers of the Central Division Gang Unit seized another firearm during a separate exercise. Acting on information, they executed a search warrant at the home of a 35-year-old man of McCarthy Street, Enterprise.
While nothing illegal was found inside the house, police said a further search was conducted at the back of the premises in an open area of land, where they discovered a black plastic bag containing a Smith & Wesson firearm, five rounds of 9mm ammunition, and two rounds of .38 Special ammunition.
The firearm and ammunition were seized, and investigations are ongoing.
