Charges are yet to be laid against four men who were arrested and are currently being questioned in connection with Saturday’s chopping death of 19-year-old Travis Sinanan of Carapo.
Sinanan, who was knocked down from his bicycle and then subsequently chopped, died at the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex in Mount Hope.
One of his hands was almost severed and the other hand several fingers were chopped off. His head was bashed in and severely chopped.
When officers of the Northern Division Operation Suppression Unit responded on the scene on Saturday night at about 7.45 pm they were told of the brutal attack and directed to the bushy area into which Sinanan’s attackers fled.
The officers conducted investigations and later arrested four men who were occupants of a white Nissan Frontier pick-up truck, in connection with the incident.
The suspects; two 30-year-olds, a 27-year-old all of Carapo and a 23-year-old of Arima, are still in custody of assisting officers with their investigations.
Sinanan’s relatives said he harrassed no one in the village and claimed that he was bullied by a specific group of villagers.
The relative also said racist remarks were often thrown at him even at the time of the attack.
The incident took place at Passion Lane, less than one minute away from where he lived with his mother and brother.
Sinanan, according to relatives who spoke to the Guardian Media during a visit at their home on Sunday, had left home riding on his bicycle to purchase cigarettes.
A close female relative said she believes that two children were allegedly used to deliberately stop Sinanan on the roadway while on the way back to his house.
“Them always used to harass him and say all kinds of things about him and say he doing all kinds of things. We don’t know why but is them self who attacked him for what we don’t know. He was always home and always talking to his girlfriend until two or three o clock in the morning, “ the relative added.
