Four people are expected to be charged with the murders of Kenneth Gill and Bernard Mahabir, whose burnt bodies were discovered in the trunk of a car in Valencia, on Monday, April 27.
In a statement issued yesterday, the TTPS said the accused were a 57-year-old woman of El Socorro, a 45-year-old woman, a 27-year-old man and a 41-year-old man, all of Valencia. The charges are to be laid following advice received from the Director of Public Prosecutions, Roger Gaspard SC, on Monday May, 11.
Gill, 67, of Trincity and Mahabir, 71, of Tunapuna, were reported missing on April 27 at the Arouca Police Station. Enquiries revealed they were last seen on Sunday, April 26, at a bar in the Lopinot district.
Gill’s bank card was subsequently used to make cash withdrawals from ATMs in the Arima and Sangre Grande districts the following day. Whilst on enquiries in Valencia, officers observed a burnt vehicle along Tapana Road. Upon making checks inside the vehicle, the burnt remains of two people were found.
Commenting on the breakthrough in the case, Commissioner of Police Allister Guevarro said, “This was a brutal and senseless act that shook the conscience of our nation. No family should ever have to endure such pain and in this particular case, there were two.
“I extend my deepest condolences to the loved ones affected, and I want them to know that they were never alone in this fight for justice. The Homicide Bureau moved with exceptional speed and discipline, ensuring that those responsible were brought to account. Their work reflects the courage and commitment that the people of Trinidad and Tobago deserve. To anyone who believes they can terrorise our communities, understand this clearly: the TTPS will find you, we will pursue you, and we will bring you to justice.”
