On the fourth anniversary of the Port of Spain prison jailbreak, a fracas has broken out at the jail involving the Rasta City and Muslim gangs according to well-placed prison sources.
Sources say that the clash between the rival gangs broke out sometime this morning and several inmates were injured.
One of the inmates who was slashed has been identified as Hassan Mohammed- they say he was attacked by a member of the Rasta City group who goes by the alias "Cash."
Mohammed prisons sources say is a high profile inmate and was rushed to the Port of Spain General Hospital for treatment. The extent of the injuries to other inmates is yet to be confirmed.
Police officers of the Belmont Police Station were also alerted and have since arrived at the prison.
Mohammed is under the guard of the High-Risk Management Unit (HRMU).
On July 24, 2015, Allan "Scanny" Martin, Hassan Atwell and Christopher “Monster” Selby shot their way out of the Port-of-Spain State Prison.
During the incident PC Sherman Maynard was shot and killed during the escape, and prison officer Leon Rouse was shot and wounded.
Martin was shot dead in a guard booth at the Port of Spain General Hospital. Atwell was murdered after hiding out in East Port-of-Spain a day later. Selby surrendered at the Barataria Police Station two days later and was charged with ten offences, including Maynard’s murder.
