Po­lice Com­mis­sion­er Gary Grif­fith has signed three Mem­o­ran­da of Un­der­stand­ing (MoU)with the Uni­ver­si­ty of the West In­dies (UWI), St Au­gus­tine, the Cipri­ani Col­lege of Labour and Co­op­er­a­tive Stud­ies (CCLCS), and the MIC — In­sti­tute of Tech­nol­o­gy.

The Po­lice Ser­vice said this is to en­sure that the ser­vice is pre­pared to meet the needs of the 21st cen­tu­ry, by en­hanc­ing the aca­d­e­m­ic skills of po­lice of­fi­cers.

The sign­ings took place this week at the Po­lice Acad­e­my, St James. Grif­fith was the sig­na­to­ry for the Po­lice Acad­e­my while prin­ci­pal of the UWI, St Au­gus­tine, Pro­fes­sor Bri­an Copeland, Di­rec­tor of CCLCS, Dr An­dre Hen­ry and chair­man of MIC Pro­fes­sor Emer­i­tus Clement Im­bert signed on be­half of their re­spec­tive in­sti­tu­tions.

In his ad­dress Grif­fith said these Mem­o­ran­da will ex­pand the Po­lice Acad­e­my by util­is­ing the ser­vices and re­sources of all three ed­u­ca­tion­al in­sti­tu­tions, to en­sure the fur­ther de­vel­op­ment of the TTPS in many ar­eas of dis­ci­pline.

He not­ed that train­ing is crit­i­cal to­ward the suc­cess of all op­er­a­tions of the TTPS and he an­tic­i­pates fruit­ful con­tri­bu­tions from their part­ners.

The Mem­o­ran­da would fa­cil­i­tate the joint de­sign and de­vel­op­ment of aca­d­e­m­ic pro­grammes and cours­es, the de­vel­op­ment of train­ing ma­te­r­i­al and re­lat­ed pub­li­ca­tions, as well as the host­ing of joint work­shops, train­ing sem­i­nars and pro­grammes in in­ter­dis­ci­pli­nary sub­ject ar­eas.
