Police Commissioner Gary Griffith has signed three Memoranda of Understanding (MoU)with the University of the West Indies (UWI), St Augustine, the Cipriani College of Labour and Cooperative Studies (CCLCS), and the MIC — Institute of Technology.
The Police Service said this is to ensure that the service is prepared to meet the needs of the 21st century, by enhancing the academic skills of police officers.
The signings took place this week at the Police Academy, St James. Griffith was the signatory for the Police Academy while principal of the UWI, St Augustine, Professor Brian Copeland, Director of CCLCS, Dr Andre Henry and chairman of MIC Professor Emeritus Clement Imbert signed on behalf of their respective institutions.
In his address Griffith said these Memoranda will expand the Police Academy by utilising the services and resources of all three educational institutions, to ensure the further development of the TTPS in many areas of discipline.
He noted that training is critical toward the success of all operations of the TTPS and he anticipates fruitful contributions from their partners.
The Memoranda would facilitate the joint design and development of academic programmes and courses, the development of training material and related publications, as well as the hosting of joint workshops, training seminars and programmes in interdisciplinary subject areas.
