The Law Association's motion of no confidence in Attorney General John Jeremie was not intended to remove him from office.
Attorney and association member Suren Capildeo said so after yesterday's two-hour debate on the motion at the Hall of Justice in Port-of-Spain.
Capildeo, who was among the first set of attorneys to leave without casting their votes, wanted to know how Jeremie could tell the media that the association could not move him. Jeremie said this in an interview with reporters on Tuesday.
Capildeo said: "There was absolutely nothing in the resolution to remove him, and who does he think he is that he can't be moved?"
Asked if the motion was not normally intended to send a signal that the person should resign, Capildeo said: "No, a motion of no confidence says 'I have no confidence in you,' it has nothing to do with removing the man from the office...That is the privilege of the Prime Minister."
