?In­de­pen­dent Sen­a­tor Dana See­ta­hal has warned that Clause 8 of the To­bac­co Con­trol Bill (2009) could be what she de­scribed as "a recipe for cor­rup­tion and abuse" as a re­sult of the pow­ers that would be giv­en to of­fi­cers for the seizure and de­ten­tion of to­bac­co prod­ucts.

She dis­ap­proved of pro­vi­sions in the bill that would give ei­ther cus­toms or po­lice of­fi­cers au­thor­i­ty to en­ter pub­lic places, work places or means of pub­lic trans­porta­tion to con­duct in­spec­tions or in­ves­ti­ga­tions at any time dur­ing busi­ness or op­er­at­ing hours or at any oth­er rea­son­able or nec­es­sary time.

She added: "It is said that a home is your cas­tle, not just a man's cas­tle but a woman's as well, and that is why there is an in­ter­po­la­tion be­tween the po­lice of­fi­cers and ju­di­cial of­fi­cer(s) and the ju­di­cial of­fi­cer is the one who pro­vides the safe­guard."
