?The Debbie Ali kidnapping case is far from closed and the matter is still under investigation, Deputy Police Commissioner Gilbert Reyes disclosed last Wednesday. Reyes, responding to questions from the Sunday Guardian about the reported closure of the case, said, "The case is not closed. It is still open. The police are still doing investigations. In fact, we are working on some leads in the matter at this time."
Reyes admitted that the police sometimes do not do "follow-up" work in informing crime survivors on how their matters are proceeding and assured, "I am going to call the Anti-Kidnapping Unit (AKU) and have them go to Ali and update her on the case." Ali was kidnapped from her Roystonia, Couva home, on December 5, 2006, and, to date, no one has been held in connection with the crime. Reyes commended Ali for "being a very brave lady" and said her speaking out openly about her ordeal has given the police hope.
