A 35-year-old man who was driven to steal from his niece because of his love for puncheon yesterday was ordered to pay a $1,500 fine forthwith. Nicknamed "Puncheon", Richard Sundar told San Fernando First Court Magistrate Indra Ramoo-Haynes: "I take the money to buy puncheon rum because I don't like marijuana or cocaine, just puncheon." He was charged with larceny by acting Cpl Inchan Teeluck, of the Ste Madeleine Police Station. The court heard that around 11.30 am on March 8 he broke into his niece's home at Ste Madeleine and took the money from inside her wardrobe. Sundar had two previous convictions for obtaining money by false pretences and obscene language.
