The Min­istry of Health said suf­fi­cient no­tice was giv­en to the T&T Postal Work­ers Union (T&TP­WU) be­fore it was evict­ed yes­ter­day from the Old Arou­ca Post Of­fice build­ing, East­ern Main Road, Arou­ca. In a state­ment, the min­istry said oth­er than the re­quests to va­cate the premis­es, 21 days no­tice was giv­en and an­oth­er 14-day ex­ten­sion was giv­en.

"The fi­nal no­tice was by let­ter to the pres­i­dent of the T&TP­WU on Oc­to­ber 20, 2010, ad­vis­ing that the Min­istry of Health will be tak­ing pos­ses­sion of the said build­ing on Thurs­day Oc­to­ber 21, 2010." The min­istry ex­plained that the build­ing was re­quired to re­lo­cate the In­sect Vec­tor Con­trol Di­vi­sion (IVCD), St George East re­gion­al of­fice, so the staff would be pro­vid­ed with bet­ter fa­cil­i­ties to per­form its du­ties.

The build­ing was as­signed to the Min­istry of Health by the Prop­er­ty and Re­al Es­tate Ser­vice Di­vi­sion of the Min­istry of Pub­lic Ad­min­is­tra­tion to house the IVCD.
