The Ministry of Health said sufficient notice was given to the T&T Postal Workers Union (T&TPWU) before it was evicted yesterday from the Old Arouca Post Office building, Eastern Main Road, Arouca. In a statement, the ministry said other than the requests to vacate the premises, 21 days notice was given and another 14-day extension was given.
"The final notice was by letter to the president of the T&TPWU on October 20, 2010, advising that the Ministry of Health will be taking possession of the said building on Thursday October 21, 2010." The ministry explained that the building was required to relocate the Insect Vector Control Division (IVCD), St George East regional office, so the staff would be provided with better facilities to perform its duties.
The building was assigned to the Ministry of Health by the Property and Real Estate Service Division of the Ministry of Public Administration to house the IVCD.
