German tourist Tilo Kruse, 20, said he was robbed today, day three of a 16-day pilgrimage from Toco to Icacos.
Although he did not say which part of the country he was in when he was robbed, he said he spent the night in Salybia and began walking again this morning.
"I don't want to make this video but I have to because I want to be honest with you guys. Today I got robbed," Kruse began in his latest video. He then went into detail explaining that two men ran out of the bushes and began assaulting him. He said they wrestled on the road until a passing car picked him up and took him to the police station to make a report.
Kruse has been walking to highlight the fact there are more good people in the country than bad. He has been relying solely on the kindness of strangers to give him food, money and a place to spend the night.
"I still continue my journey. I still believe most people in Trinidad are good. There definitely are some criminals out there and I don't want those criminals to ruin the reputation of good Trinidadians," Kruse said.
On Tuesday, Toco police told Guardian Media they were actively looking out for Kruse.
Head of the Toco Police Station Sgt Chris Edwards said they were looking out for Kruse through patrols in the area.
He added that when the backpacker exits Toco he will communicate with his counterparts in the next district about what Kruse is doing as well.
