Hard work, creativity and commitment to journalism have paid off for Guardian Media journalists, who earned three honours at the regional media awards, including one major award and two special mentions, for excellence across television and print.
The journalists were recognised at the 37th Caribbean Broadcasting Union (CBU) Media Awards ceremony at the Hyatt in Georgetown, Guyana, on Wednesday, where winners from print, digital and broadcast media in 13 countries and territories across the English, French and Spanish Caribbean were honoured.
Guardian Media copped the Best Production on Land Degradation Neutrality (Print) category, where “Rising Seas and Vanishing Lands,” written by Lead Editor - Newsgathering, Ryan Bachoo. The piece was recognised for its reporting on the effects of environmental degradation and changing landscapes on local communities.
Guardian Media also received a Special Mention in the Best Magazine Programme (Television) category for the television programme “Agenda 41.”
The programme was recognised for its coverage during the 2025 general election, with the award entry credited to hosts, Senior Producer Bavita Gopaulchan, and Lead Editor - Newsgathering Kejan Haynes, with Bachoo serving as producer.
Guardian Media also received a special mention in the Best Sports Story (Print) category for “20 Years On: Remembering When T&T Qualified” written by Bachoo.
The story looked back at Trinidad and Tobago’s historic qualification for the FIFA World Cup 2006.
The celebrations continued as two more journalists earned individual accolades for work produced before joining the company.
Climate Change Editor Seigonie Mohammed won the SDG Champion (Digital) category, while Tobago Correspondent Stephon Nicholas got a special mention for Best News Story (Print).
But it wasn’t only in the areas of news that members of Guardian Media stood out.
Radio personality Jerome “Rome” Precilla copped the award for Best Entertainment Programme (Television) for “Carnival Catwalk Season 1,” along with co-producers Rodney Seemungal and Gian Franco.
