A Moruga hairdresser is now in police custody following the stabbing of a Cocoyea man.
Investigators said around 3:20 am, Derron Gray, 44, of St Andrews Park East, Cocoyea, was in company with the 31-year-old female suspect when they got into an argument.
It is alleged that the suspect grabbed a knife and dealt Gray a stab in his right shoulder, causing him injury.
Gray was rushed to the San Fernando General Hospital where he underwent emergency surgery.
The suspect was taken into custody and the knife was retrieved. Speaking to Guardian Media, Gray’s cousin Rael Robinson said he was asleep when he heard loud screaming and saw the suspect walking up and down. Gray was lying on the ground clutching his chest while blood poured down his body.
Robinson said he had only seen the suspect twice and did not know anything about her. He said when the police arrived, they took her away. “She told police he was hitting her, and she stabbed him in self-defence,” Robinson said.
Officers of the San Fernando Police Station are continuing investigations.
