Fishermen, sailors and beach-goers will need to exercise extreme caution over the next five days as a Yellow Level Hazardous Seas Alert will be in effect.
The Alert covers northern and north-eastern exposed coastal areas of Trinidad and Tobago, including north-facing coastal areas of the Gulf of Paria, to a lesser extent.
It goes into effect at 5:00am on Saturday (October 4, 2025), and will remain active until 9:00am next Wednesday (October 8, 2025).
According to an advisory from the Meteorological Service, high-energy, long period, north/north-easterly swells in combination with spring tides are expected to agitate seas over the period with exacerbated conditions at high tides.
Forecasters say in addition, expect larger than normal breakers with large, battering waves in the surf zone.
“Near-shore activities including fishing, swimming and boat moorings can be disrupted,” the advisory warns.
Other impacts may include intrusion of salt water and displacement of sand, further than the average reach point.
Forecasters note there will be “slight improvement” on Monday morning, with conditions returning to more agitation after noon.
The Met Service is strongly encouraging all marine interests to carefully monitor nearshore/coastal sea conditions; exercise extreme caution along identified areas; restrict nearshore marine activities; and secure coastal property.
