HDC evicting Oropune tenant operating illegal business

A busi­ness­man is cur­rent­ly be­ing evict­ed from a prop­er­ty at Orop­une Gar­dens in Pi­ar­co by of­fi­cials of the Hous­ing De­vel­op­ment Cor­po­ra­tion and the po­lice.

An­tho­ny Knights was op­er­at­ing a hard­ware and a com­mer­cial shop from his apart­ment at Build­ing 3A in the hous­ing de­vel­op­ment be­fore the HDC moved in ear­ly Wednes­day morn­ing.

Guardian Me­dia was told he was giv­en sev­er­al warn­ings that his ac­tiv­i­ty was il­le­gal be­fore by the HDC along with an evic­tion no­tice.

Knights, who is an am­putee, said he has been liv­ing there for eight years and re­cent­ly held a meet­ing with HD­Cs man­ag­ing di­rec­tor Brent Lyons.

Speak­ing to Guardian Me­dia as HDC of­fi­cials and the po­lice were in the process of de­mol­ish­ing the struc­ture where he was op­er­at­ing his busi­ness­es from, Knights said he was a fa­ther of four chil­dren and was on­ly try­ing to earn an hon­est liv­ing.

Orop­une Gar­dens was thrown in­to the spot­light re­cent­ly af­ter res­i­dents ap­pealed to the HDC and the po­lice to in­crease se­cu­ri­ty there af­ter a spate of killings rocked the com­mu­ni­ty. Some of them com­plained that they were be­ing be­sieged by the crim­i­nal el­e­ments and were even fear­ful of us­ing the pub­lic fa­cil­i­ties in the com­mu­ni­ty.
