If you are in arrears to the Housing Development Corporation, they may be coming to get you in their debt collection vehicle soon.
The HDC unveiled the vehicle yesterday at their car park on George Street, Port-of-Spain.
HDC Divisional Manager, Finance, Dominique Devenish and Senior Manager, Allocations and Settlement Jeremy Campbell unveiled and inspected the vehicle, which was taken out of the HDC's fleet of vehicles and repurposed for use by its Recoveries Unit.
In a release, the HDC said this "measure will enable Recoveries personnel of the HDC to visit customers in arrears, directly at their residence. It is expected that this approach will reduce the number of customers who claim ignorance or non-receipt of official correspondence from the HDC."
The releases added, "Labelling on the vehicle will make it easily identifiable to the HDC’s client base and encourage delinquent customers to clear their outstanding debt. It is hoped that the public will also see the HDC’s commitment to recover outstanding monies."
The introduction of this vehicle is the part of a debt collection strategy which has been used by the corporation for the past two years.
The HDC, however, said no cash transactions will be made by the employees who operate from the vehicle.
