The grandson of former Tobago House of Assembly Chief Secretary appeared in court on Friday charged for murder.
Shauneil Charles, 22, of Golden Lane, appeared before a Justice of the Peace at the Scarborough Magistrates Court charged with the murder of retired police officer and businessman Donald "Sonny" Parks.
The accused is scheduled to reappear before a Scarborough Magistrate on March 25.
Parks was shot dead at his Summer Hill home on March 12 during a robbery. An undisclosed sum of Trinidad and Tobago and United States currency was taken.
Charles surrendered to police with an attorney the day after Parks' murder.
The accused has several gun-related and robbery matters pending before the court.
Parks was the owner of the popular Endeavour's Children and Maternity Store located at Carrington Street, Scarborough. He funeral is scheduled for March 27, at the Scarborough Methodist Church at 10 am.
In 2018, Hochoy Charles, the leader of the Platform for Truth, held a press conference in defence of his grandson and pleaded for him to be granted bail and released in to his care. His grandson had been transferred to a prison in Trinidad for offences including marijuana, arms and ammunition, dangerous driving and escaping lawful custody.
Charles also alleged that there was a plan to "organise his death" in Trinidad. He had also contacted THA Chief Secretary Kelvin Charles and then Minister of National Security Edmund Dillon seeking their intervention.
