Homeowners assaulted in Barataria

A 54-year-old man was at­tacked in his home by some­one claim­ing to be a po­lice of­fi­cer on Mon­day.

His 25-year-old fe­male rel­a­tive was al­so as­sault­ed when she at­tempt­ed to help.

Ac­cord­ing to a po­lice re­port, at about 1.40 am the man had just re­turned to his home at Third Av­enue, Barataria when he heard a loud bang­ing on his door.

The home­own­er re­port­ed he heard a male voice shout­ing “Po­lice, po­lice...open the door or I'll kill you."

Po­lice said the sus­pect then kicked down the door and con­front­ed the man be­fore hit­ting him with a gun butt to the head.

The fe­male rel­a­tive on hear­ing the com­mo­tion came out from an ad­ja­cent room where she at­tempt­ed to de­fend her male rel­a­tive.

Dur­ing a strug­gle the sus­pect fired off one shot be­fore run­ning off.

Po­lice who re­port­ed to the scene found a .45 cal­i­bre spent shell and pro­jec­tile.

No was in­jured and no one has been ar­rest­ed.

32 shells re­cov­ered

The mur­der toll jumped to 134 on Sun­day night with the killing of a 25-year-old man from Mor­vant.

Ac­cord­ing to a po­lice re­port, Stephen Joseph, al­so known as Goat, of Thomp­son Trace, off Laven­tille Ex­ten­sion, Mor­vant, was shot dead at about 11.45 pm not far from his home.

Po­lice said he was shot mul­ti­ple times in the head, back, and but­tocks. Po­lice re­cov­ered 32 spent shells on the scene be­lieved to be from an au­to­mat­ic weapon.
