Eastern Division police are investigating a suspected homicide, after a man was found shot dead in Vega de Oropouche on Monday night.
The victim has been identified as Desharn Henry, of Matura.
Reports indicate that around 8.30 pm, a villager was walking along Tractor Road, off the Toco Main Road, when he stumbled upon Henry’s body. Henry appeared to have sustained gunshot wounds to the head.
The discovery was reported to the Sangre Grande Police Station. Officers from the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) and Task Force responded, along with Homicide Bureau officers from Region 2.
On arrival, officers found Henry lying on the ground in a pool of blood with gunshot wounds to the head.
The District Medical Officer visited the scene, pronounced him dead and ordered the removal of the body to the Sangre Grande mortuary, pending a post-mortem at the Forensic Science Centre, St James.
Investigators attached to the Homicide Bureau, Region 2, are continuing inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the killing.
