The nude body of an unidentified man with head injuries was discovered at Cocal Estate in Manzanilla yesterday, prompting a homicide investigation by police.
Reports said estate workers were gathering dry coconuts when they stumbled upon the body lying in the grass.
The estate’s manager, identified only as Yankee, was informed of the discovery and immediately contacted the Manzanilla Police Station.
PCS Joseph and Moore responded to the report. Upon arriving at the scene, the officers were taken by workers to the body.
Police said they found a man of mixed descent lying nude on the grass with injuries to his head. He has not yet been identified.
Police are appealing to members of the public with missing relatives to contact the Manzanilla Police Station at 668-2062.
District Medical Officer Dr Mungroo visited the scene, made a pronouncement of death and ordered the removal of the body to the Sangre Grande Hospital. pending a post-mortem examination at the Forensic Science Centre in St James.
Yankee also told police that he had seen a green wagon parked along the Manzanilla Road on Saturday. However, when he returned to the estate on Sunday, the vehicle had been completely burnt.
Police were informed and responded, removing the vehicle to the Manzanilla Police Station as investigations continue.
